In a recent writing session as I work on my book sharing many of the events of my childhood growing up in family plagued with mental illness and extensive volatility and extreme abuse.  I am reflecting on the gifts that I was able to obtain over time from those 18 years.  One of the bigger challenges I faced was moving from who I was designed by my family of origin to be and who I really am.  The Gap between those two was near the size of the Grand Canyon. The impact of that Gap was identifiable in every aspect of my life.      It took 25 years of hard work to understand and make that transition so that my gap now is a very small crevice.  I now love to work with others who are feeling like that Gap might be a bit bigger than how they would like to live.

Bridging the gap between our authentic self and our portrayed self is a transformative journey, one that requires self-awareness, courage, and resilience. It involves recognizing the disparity, understanding its origins, and actively working towards alignment.

Self-Awareness

The first step in bridging the gap is cultivating self-awareness. This involves introspection and reflection, identifying the aspects of our portrayed self that diverge from our authentic self. By understanding the motivations behind these discrepancies, we can begin to address them.

Embracing Vulnerability

Embracing vulnerability is crucial in this process. It requires us to be honest with ourselves and others, to express our true thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment. Vulnerability fosters genuine connections and allows us to live more authentically.

Challenging Societal Norms

Challenging societal norms and expectations is another essential step. This involves questioning the standards that we have internalized and recognizing their impact on our portrayed self. By critically assessing these norms, we can make conscious choices that align with our authentic self.

Building Authentic Relationships

Building authentic relationships involves seeking connections that are based on mutual respect, understanding, and honesty. These relationships support our journey towards authenticity and provide a safe space for genuine expression.

As you can see this is not a quick process, but one that is incredibly worthwhile and will transform your life in to one that is truly in alignment and fits like a glove.

Let’s explore this journey together.
